As a system integrator for industrial image processing, it is essential for us at PixelEdge to continuously identify the best technologies and provide them to our customers. In this context, we tested the MV-ID6000 Smart Code Reader from Hikrobot. Our goal was to evaluate the performance and suitability of this scanner across various application scenarios. First Impressions and Integration

The ID6000 made a strong impression on us right from the initial setup. The compact and robust scanner is not only quick to install but also integrates seamlessly into existing systems. Its user-friendly design and detailed documentation enable a fast setup process, ensuring that no valuable time is lost.

After connecting the scanner, only a few basic image settings need to be adjusted. This is followed by configuring the code types to be read and defining the maximum number of codes. The combined limit for 1D and 2D codes is a maximum of 200. In addition, filter rules can be created to prevent unwanted code reads and ensure that only codes with the correct format are transmitted.

For configuring and managing the ID6000, the IDMVS software can be used, which is available for both Windows and Linux. The software can be downloaded from the Hikrobotics website.

Overall, the ID6000 provides access to all essential functions, making the setup fast, straightforward, and easy to navigate.

High-Performance Code Capture

In our initial tests, we used the ID6120PM to scan a variety of Data Matrix Codes (DMC) and barcodes on EPS crates and IFCO crates. As shown in the images, the scanner captured all DMC codes effortlessly. Even codes presented at a 180-degree rotation, at steep angles, or in mixed code types were detected reliably. This highlights the advanced image processing technology of the ID6000 series, enabling fast and precise data acquisition.

Another impressive feature of the ID6000 series is its ability to read multiple codes simultaneously. However, when scanning very large areas, the 12-megapixel resolution eventually reaches its limits, which can affect the stability of code detection. To address this, there are two efficient solutions:

  1. Increased Resolution: By using a higher-resolution model of the series, such as the ID6200PM with 20 megapixels, the scanning area can be significantly expanded without compromising detection accuracy. The higher resolution allows more precise code recognition even across large surfaces or with smaller codes.
  2. Buddy Mode: Alternatively, the ID6000 series can be operated in Buddy Mode. In this configuration, multiple scanners are linked together to cover a much larger scanning area. The devices work in sync, ensuring seamless cooperation and reliable detection of all codes, even when they are widely distributed. This approach not only increases coverage but also improves recognition accuracy in demanding environments.

Thanks to the advanced technology of the ID6120PM and the ability to scale flexibly—either through higher resolution or by using multiple devices—the ID6000 series provides a reliable and adaptable solution for code scanning, even under challenging conditions.
