Hands-on Review: Hikrobot ID6000 Logistics Code Reader
Real-world test of the Hikrobot ID6000 Smart Code Reader – performance, integration and a comparison of scanner series for demanding logistics applications.
Key Facts
First Impressions and Integration
The ID6000 made a strong impression right from the initial setup. The compact and robust scanner is not only quick to install but also integrates seamlessly into existing systems. Its user-friendly design and detailed documentation enable a swift configuration, so no valuable time is lost.
After connecting the scanner, only a few basic image settings need to be adjusted. This is followed by configuring the code types to be read and the number of codes. The limit for 1D and 2D codes combined can be up to 200. Additionally, filter rules can be created to avoid unwanted code readings and only transmit codes that match the correct format.
For configuration and management of the ID6000, the IDMVS software can be used, available for both Windows and Linux. The software can be downloaded from the Hikrobotics website.
Overall, the ID6000 provides access to all essential elements, making the setup process fast, straightforward and well-organized.
Powerful Code Scanning Performance
In our initial tests, we used the ID6120PM to scan a wide variety of Data Matrix Codes (DMC) and barcodes on EPS crates and IFCO containers. The scanner captured all DMC codes effortlessly. Even with codes rotated 180 degrees, presented at an angle, or in different code formats, the scanner operated reliably. This highlights the advanced image processing technology of the ID6000 series, enabling fast and accurate data capture.
Another impressive feature of the ID6000 series is its ability to read multiple codes simultaneously. However, with very large scan areas, the 12-megapixel resolution does eventually reach its limits, which can affect the stability of code detection. To address this, there are two efficient solutions:
- Resolution upgrade: By using a higher-resolution model from the series, such as the ID6200PM with 20 megapixels, the scan area can be significantly enlarged without compromising detection accuracy. This higher resolution enables more precise code recognition, even on large surfaces and with smaller codes.
- Buddy Mode: Alternatively, the ID6000 series can be operated in so-called Buddy Mode. In this setup, multiple scanners are linked together to cover an even larger scan area. The scanners work synchronously, collaborating seamlessly to capture all codes, even when they are spread across a wide surface. This method not only increases coverage but also improves recognition accuracy in demanding environments.
Thanks to the advanced technology of the MV-ID6120PM and the ability to scale flexibly — either through higher resolution or by deploying multiple devices — the ID6000 series offers a reliable and adaptable solution for code scanning, even under challenging conditions.
Overall, the ID6120PM impresses with outstanding performance and reliability. Through its flexibility, whether via resolution upgrades or Buddy Mode, it remains the ideal choice for efficient logistics and warehouse processes as well as other demanding data capture applications.
